White iPhone 4 pushed back to later in 2010

Monday July 26, 2010

If you’re keenly awaiting the release of the white iPhone 4, which Steve Jobs recently assured us would be landing at the end of the month, then prepare yourself for another disappointment.

We’ve already reported on the end of July date being further delayed due to apparent manufacturing difficulties, with the exact finish being tricky to get right.

And it seems this is indeed the case, as Apple has issued a statement today confirming the delay, and the fact that the snowy wonder phone is “more challenging to manufacture than we originally expected.”

So much so, that the white iPhone 4 won’t be out until “later this year”. Sounds like we could be in for quite a wait, then.

Exactly what the challenges are, Apple didn’t say in the brief couple of lines of press release it made available. A previous report from Engadget suggested that the Chinese factory responsible for producing the iPhone’s glass panel is having problems getting the exact white paint thickness and opacity correct.

As The Rolling Stones once said: “I see a black phone, and I want it painted white…”
