HP has an exciting announcement planned for February 9th, and a leaked render of the Palm Topaz has given us a steal glance at what we can expect. The image shows the 9 inch webOS tablet in all its glory. The render (right) displays a full-touchscreen device, with no physical or capacitive keys block its sleek lines.

Not much else can be gained from the image, although we have spotted a front-facing camera, a microUSB port and a three speaker arrangement. From earlier gossips, we can also expect the Palm Topaz to come with a 1.2GHz processor, webOS 2.0 and a rear-facing camera.

This phone is available with Wi-Fi, 3G and 4G versions in the States. HP has also rumored to be introducing a 7 inch alternative in September, dubbed Palm Opal. It indicates the Opal will mostly be an e-reader device, with “premium audio” onboard. Although further specs are sparse, it’s also rumored to pack a 1.2GHz processor.

No word on the pricing for the Palm Topaz and Palm Opal, but with February 9th just around the corner, we won’t have too long to wait.

Motorola has been shopping around for variety, and it has actually trademarked the term Xoom, which is projected for a 10-inch tablet that will likely be announced at CES 2011. Tablets are the in thing these days, especially those that run on Android. As Motorola already built inroads into the Android market with its Droid series, Tablets are the next frontier for this American manufacturer. It indicate that Motorola has trademarked the term “Xoom” which it intend for use on a product that may (or may not) launch at the forthcoming CES.

The 10-inch Motorola Xoom is said to be powered by a dual-core Nvidia Tegra 2 chip, 32 GB of memory, and two cameras.

Currently a money allowance processor meant as an alternative is being used in countries that are not supported to transfers.

Motorola has trademarked the word Xoom countries worldwide. Maybe it has something big up its sleeve, in terms of the Android tablet market.

The future of the MeeGo platform may lie in the success of this Nokia Aura concept phone. The latest MeeGo concept phone, the Nokia Aura, brings together a 4-inch touchscreen display in a sleek and sexy package with all the bells and whistles we’ve come to expect from a flagship Nokia smartphone.

Nokia’s MeeGo platform is off to a shaky start, but ultimately the success of a software platform in today’s market depends on top-notch hardware paired with a platform that boasts hoards of developers. While the second requirement remains to be seen, this Nokia Aura MeeGo concept phone delivers on the promise of top-notch hardware.

It is a 4-inch touchscreen display with a 12-megapixel camera, Xenon flash and HDMI output. Cased in a full aluminum body with dedicated volume, keylock and camera buttons, the Nokia Aura looks to be a beefed up Nokia N8 at first glance.

Upon further inspection you can see the device’s profile is convex on both sides, something rare in today’s smartphone market. A microSD card slot, micro USB connector and a 3.5 mm audio jack round out the feature set. At the end of the day we can’t help but think the Nokia Aura is one of the best concept designs in recent memory.

MeeGo concept is actually a piece of hardware we could see Nokia produce in the short term. For the rest of you MeeGo hopefuls out there the latest concept and whether or not you’d replace your current N8 with the Nokia Aura.

There are no doubt the Nokia N8 marks the beginning of a sea change for Espoo. Nokia is slowly, surely, starting to gather all the combination of Symbian 3 and the Nokia N8, the company’s highest spec smartphone yet.

If the iPhone is the final smartphone pushed through by the driving force of one man, the Nokia N8 feels very much like it was made by committee – all sorts of great features have been thrown in, but ultimately they don’t gel together to make something quite so compelling and usable.

The Nokia N8 is as much of a looker as the iPhone 4 or HTC Legend, but it is beautiful, in a utilitarian sort of way. It’s not too thick (113.5×59×12.9mm), firm, and between its metal casing and Gorilla Glass screen, doesn’t feel like it’ll shatter at all easily.

The 12 megapixel camera gives the Nokia N8 a raised band around the middle, which is definitely the weakpoint. It drags, on tables, and given there’s no lens shutter, and this can feel a bit alarming. But given the superb quality of the camera, we suspect many will be more than willing to accept this added bulk.

The screen on the Nokia is reasonable – as with the panel on the Nokia N97, it’s a 3.5-inch, 640×360 resolution screen. On paper, that puts it behind the curve compared to most modern 800×480 screens on smartphones today, but the Nokia N8’s ace in the hole is that it’s an AMOLED panel, offering deep, rich color manufacturers are struggling to source them right now, so kudos to Nokia on that front.

It comes with a handy hardware features worthy of note the ability to accept USB storage as well as act on it is neat, but we can’t practically.

For the inexperienced, Symbian is the leading smartphone operating system in the world by phones shipped, but in the form used on Nokia’s touchscreen phones, Symbian S60 5th edition, it also happens to be a joke.

Judgment

The Nokia N8 is an amazingly built, functional smartphone with a killer camera, and Nokia loyalists will lap up its extra features and complete resilience.

But compared to the iPhone and growing number of super charged Android phones on the scene, the software still isn’t enough to attract converts. We can’t help feel that Symbian 3 is still letting the side down a tad, and that this superb hardware would be better off mixed with MeeGo instead.

Alongside this phone hit the Web last night, the Android smartphone that’s being dubbed as the HTC Incredible HD has now found its way on to HTC.

A reader has just sent us a screenshot of the HTC Mecha nestled below the HTC Desire Z and HTC Desire HD, confirming that this could very well be the name of the handset and not just a codename.

Android Gingerbread for HTC Mecha not likely

The HTC Mecha hit the Web hard yesterday when images of it surfaces with the screen running. With it divulged information that the Mecha was a 4G LTE handset destined for Verizon and that it also packed a large display, possibly 4.3-inches, ran Android 2.2 (Froyo) and had the new Sense UI overlay.

No release date has been set for the device but judging by the fact that Verizon claim no LTE handsets would be available until 2011, we may be in for a long wait.

The first smartphone out of the Research In Motion camp to carry both a touch screen and a physical QWERTY keyboard was of course the BlackBerry Torch 9800 handset, but the device hasn’t really been received that well by the mobile space.

Maybe that is the reason an article over on the Boy Genius Report has it that AT&T has now dropped the price of the RIM BlackBerry 6 toting BlackBerry Torch 9800, probably hoping for more sales at the new lower price.

AT&T has taken the price cutting knife to the BlackBerry Torch to the tune of half its original price tag of $199.99 so after only 3 months of being available the device will now cost you $99.99 based on signing on for a two year agreement.

It’s dropping the price of the BlackBerry Torch 9800 below the highly likable $100 mark though could well be a shrewd move to pull in early festive season shoppers and before Black Friday kicks off.
